Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Porto.Specialty training at the Santo António General Hospital in Porto, with a stint at the Hôpital des Enfants de Bordeaux.
He was a staff doctor at the Vila Nova de Gaia Hospital Center, in the Neonatology Unit, and a staff doctor at the Pediatrics Service of the IPO do Porto, where he practiced from 1995 to 2019, having been Director of the Service from 2011 to 2019.
He has been retired since 2019.
He has been in private practice since 1985.
